Sonnet: Be Here Now

*****

This is how human beings were meant to live
Not by rigidity of plan or clock
Leisure full justice to the moment give
Whether for work or rest, or pause for talk

Unbound by aught employer’s tyranny
Cares not that at this moment we are tired
Work better done some other moment be —
For such an observation swiftly fired

The Tao de Ching a fine reminder be
Left to true nature, ones preference swings
Between leisure and good activity
And genuine rest willing labor brings

When work we from the center of our wills
Rather than toil as slaves to pay our bills
