Unhidden Agenda

Were we working together?
I somehow thought we were
Instead you seem one upmanship
In competition to prefer

Did we possess a common goal
It was understood
Together we were walking
Companionably to’ard?

Why are procedures on which, planning,
Appreciatively agreed
Presented now as satisfying
My unreasonable need?

Why, when energy is flowing
For all the people here involved
Is exchange made publicly

To seem of present benefit
To only one of us?
That can only happen
For one reason — that’s because

The goals which I diligently
Keeping have been in my view
Aren’t the same ones, when we look,
That you are looking to

If I don’t get proper credit
My good contributions for
But find you snatch the energy
Skedaddle out the door

And take the credit for it all
When you to others speak
There is a word exists for that
And that word is: a sneak

Among us, poets are not paid. The poet/editor of this website, being physically disabled, lives at a fraction of her nation’s poverty level, and is presently homeless. Become a patron of the fine arts at: https://www.gofundme.com/are-you-a-patron-of-the-arts
