I bless these words to do less harm than good
If any but a perfect balance be —
Given personal preference, I would
Let them drift on throughout eternity
Awakening the highest sensibilities
Of all destined to meet their energy —
Let, rather than dismay, they many please,
Let them a healing rather than a harming be
And if they must evoke a tender tear
Let it be one excess happiness of
Translucent, painless, solemn, sweet and clear
The kind come only from requited love
Bless every ear by which they may be heard
And every eye which scans my written word
